<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->ON SUNDAY, I returned home from Phuket on Tiger Airways TR 155. While the plane was still taxiing towards the Budget Terminal, we heard an announcement that a passenger had been taken ill and all passengers had to wait for the doctor to arrive before we could disembark.
Initially, we were patient, given the emergency, but after 25 minutes of waiting with no doctor in sight, we began to disembark from the rear of the plane.
Why was there no medical response team onsite to attend to such emergencies? Surely, 25 minutes is not an acceptable response time for a medical condition.
I am not certain what happened to that passenger or when the doctor finally arrived, but I hope his condition was not life-threatening.
To wait that long for a medical response at the airport when a taxi ride to Changi General Hospital would take half the time was not lost on me.
Were we disadvantaged because this happened at the Budget Terminal and not at one of the other full-service terminals?

First question, why should a whole planeload of passengers wait for the doctor when only one fell ill?

doc must certify mah! H1N1 or not

if Yes, the whole planeload must go wayang lor

If so, why were the passengers allowed to disembark after 25 minutes even when there was still no doctor to decide whether to clear them or quarantine them?

I've been on a plane where passenger actually fell ill and died on board midflight from New Zealand to Singapore. Emergency landing midway in Australia when the passenger became ill. The doctor arrived within 5 minutes and all other passengers disembarked within 15 minutes for the doctor to treat the patient. Unfortunately, the patient was unresuscitable. We waited at the transit lounge for about 30 minutes before announcement for re-embarking. Shortly after the plane took off, came the announcement that the patient has passed away and arrangement for sending the body back to NZ has been made. Moment of silence and prayer are called for.

Could this be the difference between a Christian country and a non Christian country?

On April 28, 1988, a Boeing 737-297 serving the flight suffered extensive damage after an explosive decompression in flight, but was able to land safely at Kahului Airport on Maui. The only fatality was flight attendant C.B. Lansing who was blown out of the airplane. Another 65 passengers and crew were injured. The safe landing of the aircraft with such a major loss of integrity was unprecedented and remains unsurpassed.

The aircraft, Queen Liliuokalani (registration number N73711), took off from Hilo International Airport at 1:25 HST on 28 April 1988, bound for Honolulu. There were 90 passengers and five crew members on board. No unusual occurrences were reported during the take-off and climb.[1]
Around 1:48, as the aircraft reached its normal flight altitude of 24,000 feet (7,300 m) about 23 nautical miles (43 km) south-southeast of Kahului, a small section on the left side of the roof ruptured. The resulting explosive decompression tore off a large section of the roof, consisting of the entire top half of the aircraft skin extending from just behind the cockpit to the fore-wing area.
As part of the design of the 737, stress may be alleviated by controlled area breakaway zones. The intent was to provide controlled depressurization that would maintain the integrity of the fuselage structure. The age of the plane and the condition of the fuselage (that had corroded and was stressing the rivets beyond their designed capacity) appear to have conspired to render the design a part of the problem; when that first controlled area broke away, according to the small rupture theory, the rapid sequence of events resulted in the failure sequence. This has been referred to as a zipper effect.
First Officer Madeline "Mimi" Tompkins' head was jerked back during the decompression, and she saw cabin insulation flying around the cockpit. Captain Robert Schornstheimer looked back and saw blue sky where the first class cabin's roof had been. Tompkins immediately contacted Air Traffic Control on Maui to declare mayday.
At the time of the decompression, the chief flight attendant, Clarabelle "C.B." Lansing, was standing at seat row 5 collecting drink cups from passengers. According to passengers' accounts, Lansing was sucked through a hole in the side of the airplane.
Flight attendant Michelle Honda, who was standing near rows #15 and #16, was thrown violently to the floor during the decompression. Despite her injuries, she was able to crawl up and down the aisle to assist and calm the terrified passengers. Flight attendant Jane Sato-Tomita, who was at the front of the plane, was seriously injured by flying debris and was thrown to the floor. Passengers held onto her during the descent into Maui.
The explosive decompression severed the electrical wiring from the nose gear to the indicator light on the cockpit instrument panel. As a result, the light did not illuminate when the nose gear was lowered, and the pilots had no way of knowing if it had fully lowered.
Before landing, passengers were instructed to don their life jackets, in case the aircraft did not make it to Kahului.

I think that it's the difference between SIA and Tiger.

i dun think so...i think it's the country...

long time ago, our family went to OZ for holiday the first time flying on SIA, halfway along OZ airspace, my mom was have some nausea...instead of flying direct and landed at Melbourne, the flight was diverted to Adelaide because of her, and we landed in Adelaide...

upon reaching the airport, the ground crews were already preparing a wheelchair for her, just in case she passed out.

the entire plane was delayed just because of her..

after that i am very impressed with OZ, and my eyes suddenly opened up what a great civilization that treat a human, not even a white person so well.

another time somewhere in europe i was carrying my baby and was queuing up to go up the plane, an european behind told me i could go to the front, then the ground crew ushered me immediately even before the business travellers...it's like they are all programmed to be gracious!!

after that i always believed the grass is definitely greener on the other side. there are civilizations that have Grace like Jesus...despite getting f'd long long time once in a while...of course sometimes it was my fault...or dunno the rules...

In any case, I've flown on Tiger once. Never again shall I relish or relive that experience even if it's free or even if pay is offered. To get me on another Tiger flight, one'd have to kidnap me.

To its credit Airasia lets old folks and children go in first on their flights.
