Well-known aesthetic doctor Low Chai Ling, who was found guilty by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) of professional misconduct, has been cleared on her appeal.
She had been found guilty of providing treatments up until September 2007 that had not been substantiated by scientific research.
In a 53-page written judgment, the Court of Appeal said that during the period stated in the charges against Dr Low, there were no official standards for the practice of aesthetic medicine.
Guidelines regulating the practice of aesthetic medicine were first established in July 2008 and later updated in October 2008.
Given this, it would be "unjust" to impose on her the more exacting standards which apply today, said Justice V.K. Rajah, delivering the decision of the three-judge court.
