Actress Zarina suspended, may be sacked from Seniman, its chief says

By RAHIMY RAHIM

KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial actress and model Zarina Anjouelie may be expelled from the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) and the entertainment industry after she was charged in court for having drugs, the Malay daily Sinar Harian reported on Friday.

According to Seniman president Zed Zaidi, any artist involved in serious charges might be sacked or suspended from Seniman to protect the image of artists in general.

“We do not want our artists to be involved in controversies that could affect the good name of others. In Zarina's case, her membership will be temporarily suspended until the Court makes any decision.

“However, if the court finds her guilty, she will be automatically be sacked from Seniman,” he said.

Any artists that had been sacked, said Zed, would not be allowed to be hired or act any more.

“Automatically, her name would also be deleted from the The Malaysian Artistes Association (Finas).

“This is based on the rules and regulations made by Citra Padu that requires an actor or actress to be endorsed by Finas before he or she can act.

“If any production company hires her, we can take action against them,” he said.

He also expressed disappointment over the problems of drug abuse among local entertainer and artists.

“We are planning to work with the National Anti-Drug Agency and the police to conduct courses for artists in the near future,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.
