Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) Taiwanese PC maker Acer Inc. (宏碁) launched four smartphones priced at under NT$6,500 (US$200) in the domestic market Wednesday to cash in on a government short-term stimulus package aimed at boosting the local economy.
The 4.5-inch entry-level Acer Liquid Z330 went on sale with a starting price of NT$3,290, while the 5-inch Liquid Z530 will be available later this month at NT$4,290.
The high-end Liquid Z630, equipped with a 5.5-inch screen and a large 4000mAh battery, also hit Taiwan stores at NT$5,290, while the feature-rich Liquid Z630S is set to go on sale in December at NT$6,490.
Towny Huang (黃鐘鋒), president of Taiwan operations at Acer, said at the product launch that the four new phones will fit consumer demand under the government's short-term stimulus package, which provides a NT$2,000 subsidy for upgrades to 4G handsets from 2G, which took effect from this month to January next year.
Huang said he expects sales of the four new Liquid phones to total 40,000 units in the next three months, helping Acer reach another peak in its local smartphone business.
On an annual basis, Huang forecast that Acer's smartphone sales will grow from an estimated 80,000 units in 2015 to a range of 100,000-200,000 units in 2016, giving the company a local market share of between 3 percent and 5 percent.
