SINGAPORE: An accountant who siphoned more than S$230,000 from her company to fund her gambling habit has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years' jail.
Choo Mui, 42, was found guilty of one count of dishonestly misappropriating money.
Two other similar counts were taken into consideration during sentencing on Tuesday.
She committed the offences between 2008 and 2010, when she was handling petty cash and payments at the building and construction company she worked for.
The court heard that she put in an amount she wanted in pre-signed cheques, and had them signed by the company director, under the pretence of work purposes.
Using this ruse, she misappropriated company funds using 18 pre-signed cheques.
She later en-cashed the cheques and used the money to gamble at the Resort World Sentosa casino.
The prosecution said no restitution has been made.
The court also heard that Choo had a previous conviction of six years' jail for a similar offence in 2000.
