Tobacco promoting syndicates given VIP treatment by government which has strict rules on everything from chewing gum to "fixing the opposition": it's what lines the Minister's pocket that decides???!!! (I.e GDP bonus component of Minister's salary). Even Indonesia's leadership is much more qualified then ours, no $$$ can bribe Bali governor (Made Mangku Pastika) into betraying his fellow human's health!

Tobacco fair contradicts anti-smoking efforts
WORLD No Tobacco Day is coming up on May 31, but there is little reason for cheer.
One of the largest trade fairs in the tobacco industry, the World Tobacco Asia 2014, is set to take place in Singapore in November, after being rejected by Indonesia.
As a party to the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), Singapore is required to meet its obligations under Article 13 of the FCTC.
The WHO states that a comprehensive ban on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship should cover:
- All advertising and promotion, as well as sponsorship, without exception;
- Acts that aim at promotion and acts that have, or are likely to have, a promotional effect;
- Promotion of tobacco products and the use of tobacco;
- Commercial communications and commercial recommendations and actions;
- Advertising and promotion of tobacco brand names and all corporate promotion.
Holding the fair would result in Singapore contravening the above obligations under Article 13.
After successfully hosting the World Conference on Tobacco or Health in 2012 and pledging to reduce smoking prevalence to below 10 per cent by 2020, staging the tobacco industry's trade show here would be absurd.
The fair is not a closed-door event accessible exclusively to industry players. Members of the public would inadvertently be exposed to otherwise banned tobacco advertising.
How can the Health Sciences Authority ensure that tobacco products which are prohibited in Singapore would not be imported, promoted and given out as samples at the fair?
How can the authorities prevent such illegal products from being surreptitiously sold here after the trade show ends?
The Government must remain resolute in its stand against tobacco and protect Singaporeans from all forms of tobacco promotion without exception.

Tobacco fair contradicts anti-smoking efforts
Guess anything that will raise the Prime Ministers dignity through a raise in his salary (by boosting GDP at all cost) is welcomed in Sink@poor:
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."

More strict regulation regarding permissible convention topics should be imposed. Hosting 'World Tobacco Asia2014' at Marina Bay sands remains proof that all PAP cares about is profit, even if the source, not to mention outcome of such is unhealthy, immoral or plain stupid.

Anything related to the promotion or use of tobacco anywhere should be categorically discouraged. By allowing such tobacco promotional activity to be conducted in Sink@poor, PAP has contradicted the moral reason why tobacco is so highly taxed in Sink@poor (I.e ciggies smoking is bad for the health of EVERYONE).

'World Tobacco Asia' conference CANNOT AND MUST NOT be allowed in Singapore.

Further screenshot evidence from Brochure | World Tobacco Asia about their addiction promoting 'criminal' activities:

Just as all outdoor gatherings need a police permit (e.g. group cycling at East Coast Park organised by WP), private indoor gatherings of rich/ greedy people conspiring to profit from creating addicts out of the poor should even more so be banned.

Where possible, ALL TOBACCO SALES, USE AND DISPLAY in private or in public SHOULD BE BANNED during the conference days of 'World Tobacco Asia2014' in Singapore...

Efficient use of road space for shorter distances, ride bicycle is better:
"In the space it takes to accommodate 60 cars, cities can accommodate around sixteen buses or more than 600 bikes. As Australia’s population swells and our cities experience ever increasing congestion we need to get smarter about how we use existing road space—including investing more in alternatives such as public transport and cycling—if we are to move people more efficiently and effectively.” said former professional cyclist Stephen Hodge (Australia).

Sorry, bicycle vs bus vs car space pict is not included in latest essay version, but I added it back here for your convenience.
In traffic jam situation (which is increasingly frequent nowadays), usually bumper to bumper traffic as U see here.

Even if fast moving traffic, lower speeds allow closer packing within safe limits, 3second rule when moving means space between vehicles is increased proportionally the faster the vehicle travels.
My guess is that the space consumed would be proportionally same even if speed is increased and perhaps only the train will have superiority over smaller capacity vehicles if it came to that...

Hosting tobacco forum contradicts S’pore’s values

Hosting tobacco forum contradicts Singapore's values
FROM DELANE LIM ZI XUAN - 24thMAY2014 [Voices: TODAY]
I have learnt that the World Tobacco (WT) Asia 2014 forum, which will attract visitors in the tobacco industry, will be hosted in Singapore.
In March 2012, the city hosted the World Conference on Tobacco or Health, in which Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said Singapore would focus on creating an environment where being smoke-free is the norm.
We have just increased tobacco taxes and there are programmes for non-smokers to help smokers quit. In 1971, Singapore was the first in Asia to ban tobacco advertising. Since then, the Government has done a good job in banning smoking in public places.
In 2004, Singapore was the first in Asia to require graphic pictures on cigarette packets to warn smokers about the dangers of smoking. All these were done to ensure the well-being of Singaporeans, especially the youth.
After doing much to create a tobacco-free environment, it is disappointing that we will be hosting WT Asia. This contradicts our values.
WT Asia 2014 was supposed to be held in Indonesia, but was called off due to criticism.
WT Asia organisers have said the Asia-Pacific added six million new smokers in 2009 and will add another 30 million by this year. Through WT Asia trade fairs, which promote tobacco consumption and its perceived benefits, tobacco companies can capitalise on this growing market by exhibiting their products.
On average, seven Singaporeans die each day from smoking and tobacco will kill one of every 13 Singaporeans born from the year 2000.
Hosting WT Asia would send the wrong signal to our youth that Singapore discourages smoking, but supports tobacco industry players by allowing them to organise their event here.
We are held in high regard for our tobacco control policies. We must stand firm on what is good for our future generations
Hosting tobacco forum contradicts S
All this talk of "dignity", " moral authority", yet promoting health-destroying tobacco addiction/ consumption just to give CEO bonuses and boost shareholder dividends, and by extension increase Minister's salary (linked to CEO/ top salary benchmarks, short term (annual) GDP growth etc) makes all the talk about moral integrity sound like a big wayang show ("make believe") to me...

"Moral authority":
TRANSCRIPT OF PRIME MINISTER LEE HSIEN LOONG’S INTERVIEW WITH US TELEVISION JOURNALIST CHARLIE ROSE ON 14 APRIL 2010 IN THE UNITED STATES
...
CHARLIE ROSE (Q): “You seem to be sensitive to the issue of what is called nepotism?”
Mr LEE HSIEN LOONG: “We are very sensitive.”
Q: “Tell me about this sensitivity?”
Mr Lee: “The whole of our system is founded on the basic concept of meritocracy. You are where you are because you are the best man for the job and not because of your connections or your parents or your relatives. If anybody doubts that I as Prime Minister am here not because I am the best man for the job but because my father fixed it or my wife runs Temasek because I put her there, not because she is the best woman for the job, then my entire credibility and moral authority is destroyed. I am not fit to be where I am and it is a fundamental issue of fitness to govern. First you must have the moral right, then you can make the right decisions. It is a basic Confucian precept.”
Q: “Only when you have the moral right?”
Mr Lee: “Then can you govern and make the country right and in Singapore people expect that. If there is any doubt that this is so and people believe that I am there because my father fixed it or the whole system really is just a make believe, then the system will come down. It is not tenable. If it is true, it better be proven and I better be kicked out. If it is not true, it better also proven to be not true and the matter put to rest.”
Q: “So if some journalist writes about nepotism and you think it is not true?”
Mr Lee: “Then we sue him as we did recently.”

'Dignity'= impressing(/scaring) others with our Ministerial level salaries:...

Public access to tobacco forum promotes smoking
LIU I-CHUN
PUBLISHED: 3rdJUNE 2014.
In the letter “Hosting tobacco forum not the same as promoting smoking” (May 26), Mr Ace Cheong asserted that “there is nothing wrong with hosting (the forum) because it is not the same as promoting smoking”.
World Tobacco (WT) Asia is not restricted exclusively to industry players. The public, including contractors, deliverymen, ushers, security guards, cleaners, hotel staff and media personnel, would inadvertently be exposed to otherwise banned tobacco advertising.
Such advertising would be extended through hundreds of attendees donning badges and carrying bags with WT Asia and sponsor logos when they leave the conference venue.
If direct and indirect promotion of smoking were not a concern, why was there opposition in Indonesia, which resulted in the event being moved to Singapore? The documentary, Secrets of the Tobacco Industry, reveals shocking footage of WT Asia 2010.
By allowing the event to be held here, we would be contributing to the industry’s efforts in promoting smoking to four billion people in Asia. It is akin to saying: “We do not participate in human trafficking, but you can use our port.”
Singapore should join Indonesia in rejecting WT Asia 2014.

Hosting tobacco forum not the same as promoting smoking
ACE KINDRED CHEONG, MAY 26, 2014.
I disagree with the letter “Hosting tobacco forum contradicts S’pore’s values” (May 24). There is nothing wrong with hosting such an event because it is not the same as promoting smoking.
It is the same as hosting a conference on gaming. Would it mean encouraging people in Singapore to gamble?
On the contrary, Singaporeans and permanent residents are discouraged from gambling in the casinos here via a S$100 levy.
I attended the World Conference on Tobacco or Health 2012 and learnt much from it.
I am sure I could learn something from the World Tobacco Asia 2014 forum if I were to attend it.
