BATU PAHAT, Malaysia - The eight-month-old baby, who was an alleged victim of abuse, has died.
Rafidah Mohd Ashak, 29, said her only child Nur Irisyafida Balkis Abdul Azim died in her arms at around 2.30pm at the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital here on Tuesday after she was admitted on Oct 11.
"The doctors had told me that the chances of survival were nil as they had found no brain activity," she said at her parents' home in Kampung Sungai Kelambu here.
Nur Irisyafida suffered a seizure and fell unconscious when she was taken to the hospital at about 7.30am last Thursday.
The baby was believed to have been abused by her mother's jobless boyfriend.
Rafidah said her boyfriend had earlier taken her daughter for an outing.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Din Ahmad said police had reclassified the case to Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The 34-year-old suspect was earlier picked up at 4.10pm on Friday in Tongkang Pecah here along with two men aged 37 and 39.
They were suspected to have been involved in several house break-ins and robberies.
