i must mention that this is rather unusual for the well-oiled PAP machinery that we are familiar with, especially when we know that they are very effective with their coordinated attacks and offensive maneuvers that had successfully taken down their political opponents in the past.

granted that the old man is way past his 80s and approaching the 90s, he appears to be sharp as before and his words still seemed to carry much weight, except for the fact that LHL seemed to have taken a direction of his own.

my suspicion is that the architecture of the political moves from the incumbent had originated from the late Mdm Kwa, or it had been conceived together with her help. without this important pillar, the old man wasn't able to convince LHL, thus resulting in the lost of direction in which the offensive could have been orchestrated and executed.

Maybe there is some truth to your observation.
I would like to add: the incumbent is facing a real test this time & they do not look like they are doing well. One conclusion is they can only perform on its own terms, like walk-overs. So in this GE, everyone can see their true capabilities which are not very impressive at all, especially considering the tools at their disposal.
The alternative parties are real political parties - low on resources but with a lot of heart & courage. They are the real LIONS of Singapore!

What is happening is that
1. The factions within the pap and possibly even within the cabinet are starting to be apparent. This could have something to do with LBH's departure as well. Some strange things are happening. First GCT claims that he will not comment on battles outside his grc. Then he comes out forcefully soon after. Could be that oldman had a forceful word with him.

2. The individuals are beginning to have a sense of their own importance. In the past they would follow the Lee rules and dig solidified bunkers. Now when faced by pressure and scrutiny, they are starting to dig their foxholes and self scrapes.

I realized that whatever people are angry about, the PAP have no form of preparation... all ill prepared, as if they are totally ignorant of what is truly happening in Singapore.

I will vote for Opposition... we don't need to be treated like lesser mortals now... let our VOTES do the talking... MANDATE is given by the people of Singapore... not by a Self Serving Government.

I think it's a combination of several factors.

First, this is the Maginot Line syndrome, i.e. the PAPzis built a long static defence line against their opponents who have learnt to be more nimble and mastered new technologies the PAPzis have at best been suspicious of.

Second, inbreeding leading to Groupthink - look at who is who's offspring, nephew or PPS's wife. And to think, Salah Peiling is supposed to be spearheading their new media thrust! Epic fail.

Third, and this is related to the first - the PAPzis have lost touch with our needs and believe they are still those of yesterdays.

The main difference between the current election and past election is the social media. Any wrong move by the incumbent could easily backfire, hence i believe they might have realised this and chose to be a little more restrained, eg. the VB attack against VW. The other possibility is they keep their bullets for the last 2 days. Maybe they want to let the opposition burn-out.

Never under-estimate your opponent. But yes, the Chief Architect lost his right arm, and with age getting on him, i doubt he even have half that energy.
