MR J.B. Jeyaretnam was a phenomenon in his own right. He took on the People's Action Party in his quest to realise his dream of creating a different future for Singaporeans.
He followed his convictions and his conscience.
He could have walked away from the political scene after his discharge from bankruptcy, but he chose to pursue the work he felt he had a strong calling to do.
JBJ, as many knew him fondly, might have once been the lone opposition voice of his time when he was a Member of Parliament, but he taught Singaporeans never to be afraid to speak up for the simple reason that those in power are there primarily due to the the people's votes.
He believed in his mission to arouse public awareness of all things good and bad in Singapore.
His passing is a loss to the nation, but his contributions and his place in the history of our nation cannot be denied.
I invite all Singaporeans to accept the man for his grit and determination and his humble ways, and grant him a warm sending off to reunite with his wife.
