....A director of a local travel agency has been fined a total of $19,500 after being found guilty of carrying out the business of a travel agent without a valid travel agent licence, said the Singapore Tourism Board (STB)...STB said that Yam Tee Kuang, the key executive and director of Uniglobal Holidays, had pleaded guilty and was convicted of two charges under the Travel Agents Act, with 37 similar charges against him taken into consideration....He operated without a valid travel agent licence from Jan 1 to April 14, 2014. Investigations also revealed that Uniglobal had failed to deliver about S$140,000 worth of travel products paid for by Russia-based tourists of seven Russian travel agencies....
Although the bloke did not have licence to operate travel agency, he was still audacious enough to cheat Russian travel agencies out of $140,000.00 in a scam.
When caught, the softie judge collected fine of just $19,500.00 from the bloke, overlooking the fact that what the bloke had done is beyond just an infringement but a serious case of a scam which has damaged the good name of sinkie land.
So, instread of sending the bloke to hotel changi for a good spell to deter others of similar scams, the softie judge just collected the fine and case closed.
When the Minister spoke about safety and security in sinkie land, it sounds hollow.
