Firefighters rescue man hanging on to window ledge in Hougang condo fire
Firefighters forced their way into a burning unit on the 5th floor of Regentville Condominium to pull this man to safety. They also rescued a girl from another unit on the 4th floor.
In a news release to STOMP yesterday (Oct 22), SCDF said:
“At 1035hrs, SCDF received a call alerting us to a fire at No. 6 Hougang St 92.
“SCDF arrived at the location within 6 minutes. Smoke and flames were seen showing from two units on the 5th and 6th floor, Tower 5, of Regentville Condominium.
"A man was seen holding on to the kitchen window ledge of the unit on the 5th floor.
“SCDF firefighters immediately conducted a forced entry into the unit on the 5th floor. Upon gaining entry, SCDF rescued the man and guided him to safety.
"A fire fighter rushed straight to the kitchen window and pulled the man to safety. A security guard who assisted in the rescue operations had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation. The fire in the bedroom was brought under control with 1 water jet.
“While conducting checks on all the floors, SCDF received information that there was a child in a unit on the 4th floor. SCDF conducted forced entry and rescued one female child. She was sent to KKH for suspected smoke inhalation.
“Concurrent with the fire fighting and rescue operations on the 5th floor, SCDF also executed forced entry into the unit on the 6th floor and another unit on the 7th floor as there was smoke coming out from these units. These two units are directly above the unit on fire on the 5th floor.
“The fire to the unit on the 6th floor was extinguished with 1 water jet; the fire was confined to the bedroom. There was no fire in the unit on the 7th floor.
“One SCDF firefighter was also sent to CGH due to exhaustion. He has since been discharged.
“The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
