A bullet shell for teacher – from a jealous teen
MENTAKAB: A teenager was arrested by police for allegedly setting fire to a tuition centre and sending an empty M16 shell to intimidate a teacher, whom he believed was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend. The 19-year-old was picked up at his house in Taman Bukit Bendera near here at about 11am yesterday.
Sources said the suspect admitted to commiting the acts out of jealousy and anger. District CID chief Deputy Supt R. Sundrasingam said the case would be investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and Section 507 for criminal intimidation.
It is learnt the suspect had set fire to a tyre which was placed on the staircase leading to the tuition centre at about 3.50am yesterday. A typewritten note in Chinese, affixed to the M16 shell, was placed on the windscreen of a van, belonging to the centre, parked nearby.
There were no casualties.
Sources said the teenager could have collected the empty shell from the area behind his home, which was a shooting range used by army personnel to conduct training. It is learnt that the teenager, who worked as a wireman, had broken off with his girlfriend recently after she told him that she wanted to focus on her studies.
