SINGAPORE: The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 96 drug offenders in an islandwide operation conducted from May 19 to 22.

About 72 grams of heroin, 19g of ice, 32g of cannabis and some ecstasy tablets were seized in the operation, CNB said in a statement issued Friday (May 23).

CNB officers arrested 91 suspected drug abusers and five suspected drug traffickers, including a 43-year-old male Singaporean suspected of pushing heroin in the Hougang area, the statement said.

The operation was conducted in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok Reservoir Road, Bendemeer Road, Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang, Chai Chee, Choa Chu Kang, Chin Swee Road, Geylang, Hougang, Marsiling, Sembawang Drive and Woodlands, the CNB said.

Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, later wrote on his Facebook page to congratulate the agency's drug bust.

"CNB's enforcement efforts, coupled with upstream intervention and strong community partnerships, has shown our relentless commitment to fighting drug abuse," he wrote.

He added the region's drug situation remains challenging. But by keeping up the comprehensive approach against drugs and working closely with like-minded regional and international partners, "we can keep the drug menace at bay", he said.
