THE Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has arrested 79 suspected drug abusers and 9 suspected drug traffickers in a two-pronged islandwide operation which lasted over 48-hours from June 13 to 15.
A total of approximately 1 kg of heroin, 27 grams of Ice, 3 grams of ketamine, 230 grams of cannabis and 36 Erimin-5 tablets were seized from the whole operation.
Among those arrested was a 34-year-old Singaporean man suspected of having received a consignment of drugs from a foreign drug syndicate.
CNB officers had earlier set up an ambush in the carpark of a shopping centre along Orchard road. Spotting the suspect driving a Mazda RX8, officers moved in and successfully arrested the suspect.
Approximately 133 grams of 'Ice,' and small amounts of 'Ecstasy' and Erimin-5 pills were found in the vehicle - the drugs are estimated to be worth $38,000.
The 34-year-old suspect will be charged for drug trafficking. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane.
