8 foreigners face rap for tanker heist

KOTA TINGGI: Eight Indonesians were charged at the magistrate's court with committing two counts of armed gang robbery on a tanker off Tanjung Stapa in Pengerang, near here.
The eight men -- Dane, 23, Hasbullah, 35, Ricky, 37, Trim, 36, Jais, 46, Arjadi, 32, Amie, 37 and Zul, 34, -- were jointly charged with breaking into the Saint Kitts and Nevis-registered vessel, MT Merlion Dua, and committing armed robbery when the vessel was at 17.34 nautical miles north and 08.13 nautical miles east off the coast of Tanjung Stapa about 4am on Dec 11.
They also faced a separate joint charge of committing armed gang robbery on board the same vessel with two others still at large about 2.30am. No pleas were recorded.
Deputy public prosecutor Juanita Mohd Said prosecuted while the eight were unrepresented.
Magistrate Nor Shahid Abd Malik fixed Friday for mention.
