Waiting time to see doctor still needs to be improved

By NISHA RAMCHANDANI
SEVENTY-SIX per cent of patients are satisfied with Singapore's public healthcare institutions - up two percentage points from 2008. But waiting times still remain a bugbear, according to the 2009 Patient Satisfaction Survey released yesterday by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The survey showed 23 per cent of patients rated their overall satisfaction 'excellent' and 53 per cent 'good', for a combined score of 76 per cent.
Among public hospitals, Alexandra Hospital had the highest overall satisfaction rating of 85 per cent, beating its 83 per cent score in 2008. It was followed by KK Hospital (79 per cent) and Singapore General Hospital (78 per cent).
For specialty centres, the Institute of Mental Health was ranked top for patient satisfaction. And 90 per cent of respondents would 'strongly recommend' or be 'likely to recommend' the National Skin Centre to others.
Marine Parade Polyclinic was ranked top among polyclinics for patient satisfaction. Bukit Batok Polyclinic had a 35 per cent score for 'strongly recommend' and 55 per cent for 'likely to recommend' which made it the polyclinic patients would most likely recommend to others.
However, waiting time to see a doctor still needs to be improved, the survey revealed.
'The healthcare institutions will have to work harder in this area,' MOH said. 'We have added the number of doctors significantly and will continue to do so, to meet rising expectations. However, this will also have an impact on operating cost.'
Almost 10,000 patients from the public hospitals, national specialty centres and polyclinics were polled for the independent survey, which was commissioned by MOH.

The statistic is fixed by PAP to look good. So please take such report with a huge tons of salt.

In my personal book of Singapore Urban Legends, 9 out of 10 Singaporeans are satisfied with PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

They have this knack of coming out with strange surveys and even stranger results, don't they?

A pinch of salt will do!, a ton will bring you closer to your maker!:D They ask the 66.6& plus the MEMBERS you get 76%...:p elementary! QED!

the 76% is happy with the quality of healthcare. if they will to do a survey about the cost of healthcare, i will not be surprise that the results will show 76% is unhappy with the high cost of healthcare. I must admit that the quality of healthcare is much better compared to China which i have been residing in past few months. but China is much cheaper and affordable to its people something which i am not sure if the same apply to singaporeans

You have to wait for months before you see a specialist or a dentist. Patients sleepng along corridors has also become an accepted practice. We spend less, per capitaon healthcare than other developed counries.

:oIo::oIo::oIo:

There, I fixed the survey!

Yeah! I believed that everyone who lives in my kingdom adores me.

They can never get enough of me. So there's a saying that is spreading in my kingdom which is called, "Everybody Loves Harry Ah!"
:D

is it 76% of the rich people satisfied and 100% of the normal singaporean buay song?

That is why u notice the article never states which firm did the survey, what is the determination of the sample size, what is the accuracy + or - %. etc. All these are stated in most surveys done in western countries. They will say the survey was conducted by Ipsos Reid or Gallup, or some other survey firm, and is accurate to within 2% or something like that. By not disclosing the survey firm, no one can go on their website and see their methodology.

U know this survey is a crock of shit when And 90 per cent of respondents would 'strongly recommend' or be 'likely to recommend' the National Skin Centre to others.. Well, which other place in S'pore would you recommend someone to go and see if they had a skin problem? Its not like there are 10 different national level skin centres around.
