Nanyang Siang Pau, China Press and Oriental Daily reported the theft of 725,000 ultra-thin condoms in transit between Malaysia and Japan.
The polyurethane condoms packed in 85,000 boxes were loaded into a container at a factory in Malaysia, said Sagami Rubber Industries, which was founded in 1934 and is the first condom maker in Japan.
“The shipment was empty when it arrived at the company’s main plant in suburban Tokyo on Jan 25,” company spokesman Norinari Wakui told AFP, adding that the lock on the container had been replaced before it left the port in Malaysia.
The condoms which, at 0.02mm, are 14% thinner than rival products, are worth 120mil yen (RM1.48mil) at Japanese retail prices, he said.
