When Malaysian police arrested Stanley Ong Beng Hock in Kuala Lumpur two days later, they recovered $650,000. Singapore police seized another $794,757 from Tan Chee Wey, whose case is pending.

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->A CERTIS Cisco police constable who abused his position of trust by filching $2 million while on duty at the cash processing centre was jailed for seven years yesterday.
In sentencing Stanley Ong Beng Hock, District Judge Liew Thiam Leng said the 28-year-old's role was to protect and look after the security of the money that was entrusted to him.
'Instead of fulfilling his responsibilities, he has abused his trust and taken the money which was under his care,' he said.
The amount involved was substantial, he added, and the theft had an impact on the security of the company concerned.
Ong, a Malaysian, had pleaded guilty to stealing $2 million from his employer at Certis Cisco on Jalan Afifi in Paya Lebar on April 12.
He also admitted to moving $1.2 million of the stolen cash to Malaysia, as well as moving it without declaring it.
Under the law, a person has to make a declaration if he moves more than $30,000 in cash out of Singapore.
During mitigation last week, Ong told the court he was willing to be caned for a shorter jail sentence, but was told that the offences he had committed carried no caning, only imprisonment and a fine.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jean Chan said Ong, who had been on the job for about a year, stole the money while he was in charge of delivering nine consignments of cash from the cash processing centre on the fourth storey of Certis CiscoI to the vault on the first level.
He deliberately stacked the first three of the four trolleys high with boxes and envelopes of cash to block the view of the two duty officers of the fourth trolley.
He then placed the envelope containing the $2 million on top of the fourth trolley, which had very few boxes, and his overall jacket on top of that.
As the first three trolleys were being checked, Ong excused himself to go to the washroom, taking with him the jacket and the stolen envelope of cash, which he hid behind a sofa.
Later, he returned to retrieve the envelope of money and disappeared after lunch.
After the theft, Ong met his colleague, Tan Chee Wey, 41, at a hawker centre toilet in Kallang and handed him a plastic bag with $800,000.
He told Tan that he had just stolen the money from Certis Cisco and made a pact with him. He asked Tan to use the money to pay off debts on his behalf. He promised Tan 10 per cent as commission and they agreed to meet in Johor Baru later that evening.
When Malaysian police arrested Ong in Kuala Lumpur two days later, they recovered $650,000. Singapore police seized another $794,757 from Tan, whose case is pending.
Pressing for a stiff sentence, DPP Chan said Ong had planned the offences, using his knowledge as an auxiliary police officer.
She said the blatant abuse of trust and position by Ong was both reprehensible and abhorrent. His offences affected and undermined the integrity of the public security services provided by Certis Cisco.

Actually sometimes these types of sentences grossly does not match the sum being stolen, thus most desperados especially those in heavy debts are tempted to carry out white collar crimes such as CBT, honestly how many of us can earn S$2m in our lifetime and don't even think of 2 years

Steal S$2m than stash somewhere in ulu ulu jungle, suffer 2 years under sponsored shelter and food, come out 2 years later can retire liao....

How come your thinking so small and narrow one. I bet you never think that you will earn even a million $.

That is way too under-achieve for having a chance to be alive.. Make full use of it.
