KUALA LUMPUR - Seven Malaysians were nabbed in two countries over the past week for allegedly using fake credit cards.
On Aug 5, three Malaysian men had visited a diamond merchant in the central port city of Danang, Vietnam. Viet Nam News said one of the men purchased jewellery worth 53 million dong (RM7,900) using a credit card.
After the Malaysians left the shop, the shop-owner said a received a call from a worker from another branch warning her about a fake credit card being used by a Malaysian man to buy jewellery earlier in the same day.
Upon hearing this, the staff at the Danang shop went after the three men and managed to apprehend two of them. The third suspect got away but was nabbed the next morning.
Police later found several diamond necklaces, 18 credit cards and passports of different countries in his possession.
The three, who entered Vietnam on July 27, were believed to have cheated at least seven shops in the city of 200 million dong using fake cards.
In Bahrain, four Malaysians were arrested for credit card offences in two separate incidents last week.
In the first case, a Malaysian was arrested for using a forged credit card at an aviation company. He was later found in possession of 24 forged credit cards.
The other Malaysians were detained upon arrival at the Bahrain International Airport after they were found to have 49 credit cards.
