Woman poses as teen to trap lecherous hubby
A 68-YEAR-OLD man who chatted up schoolgirls on the Internet was turned in to the police by his own wife who caught him in the act by posing as a 14-year-old girl.
Cheryl Roberts, 61, became suspicious one day when she saw an obscene message pop up on David Roberts’ computer while he was away, a British court heard.
The message read: “You are a f---ing beautiful b----’”.
It was signed Corky – David’s nickname.
Cheryl, a mother of two and David’s wife of over 20 years, realised that the message was meant for a young girl, prosecutor Martin Kelly told the Cardiff Crown Court.
She went “undercover” by creating her own profile as a 14-year-old girl in the same chat room to get to the bottom of things.
She struck up a dialogue with David who tried to lure her out for sex.
Little did he know that the 14-year-old girl was actually his wife and communicating with him from just the next room.
Cheryl subsequently watch David use his webcam to carry out acts of indecency on himself, British newspapers reported.
She then called the police and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
Police found illegal child pornography images on David’s computer when they raided his home in Brigend, South Wales.
But it was only weeks later that David found out it was his wife who had turned him in. He had earlier believed that police caught him downloading the images, the court was told.
He denied having sex with any underage girls but conceded he was “prepared to do so”.
He was sentenced to a three-year community order and banned from having access online or in person to children under 18.
The couple have since divorced.
