61 errant buses hauled up during operation
JOHOR BARU: More than 61 public buses were given summonses and compounds by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) during an operation conducted here. State JPJ enforcement deputy assistant chief Abdullah Hashim said more than 80 buses were checked during the joint operation with Puspakom along Jalan Datuk Onn here.
“The offences included having bald tyres, using a mobile phone while driving, not having a first aid box inside the bus, expired road tax and driving outside the permitted area. “We also issued notices to at least 14 buses for other offences,” he said, adding that offenders who had been given notices were required by law to send their vehicles for inspection at JPJ branches.

Abdullah explained that the bus drivers were given 10 days to rectify matters before being inspected again by the department. He also said that if the drivers did not comply with the notice, a stiffer fine would be imposed.
