</cite>SINGAPORE: Police have arrested 54 vice and immigration offenders in a raid on a forested area near Woodlands Avenue 4 and 9.

Over 100 officers from the Jurong Police Division, the Criminal Investigation Department and Gurkha Contingent took part in the three—hour operation which started at 10pm on Monday. The offenders comprised 38 men and 16 women of various Asian nationalities. They were found in about 20 makeshift wooden huts in the area. The offenders are aged between 25 and 50 years old. Police said the women will be charged in court on January 7 while the men will be released on bail pending further investigation. — CNA/vm
