A five-year-old girl has been allegedly raped by a 12-year-old boy in a village in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, which is at the centre of global uproar over a series of horrific sex crimes in the past 10 days.

It was learnt the accused found the victim alone outside her home on Monday night, as both her parents were away and a girl who was asked to keep a watch had gone to a neighbour's house.

The accused, a student of class 5, was booked for rape and sent to a juvenile home. He confessed to the police that he had lured the victim with a toffee inside her home. Before committing the crime, he had watched porn clips on a relative's cellphone, the police said.

Doctors described as critical the condition of the girl who is being treated at the main government hospital of Fatehpur. She might be shifted to Kanpur for advanced treatment.

In her complaint, the victim's mother told the police that on reaching home, she was greeted by the sight of the girl lying unconscious on the floor, bleeding profusely.

At the same time, she saw the boy fleeing from the house. However, after a chase the accused was caught by a few local residents, said Amod Singh, station house officer Chandpur police station.

The local elders tried to deter the girl's mother from filing the complaint by downplaying the crime as a "childhood mistake".

However, the woman filed the complaint in the absence of her husband, who was in Kanpur.

"I want justice for my girl. He ruined her life forever," she told HT over phone.
