5 suspected of setting fire to debtors' houses arrested

Five people were arrested on Monday for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment cases in which the front doors of the victims' homes were set on fire.

Police said that the five, between the ages of 15 and 23, are believed to be responsible for at least eight harassment cases between Oct 11 and Oct 24 at various locations over Singapore, including Jurong East, Woodlands, Serangoon, Hougang and Bukit Panjang.

During the raids in Sembawang and Yishun, the police also seized mobile phones, a laptop, a thumb drive, flammable liquids and containers, marker pens and clothing.

All five will be charged in court on Tuesday.
