SINGAPORE: Police have arrested five persons to assist with investigations into a case of rioting.
Police said on March 19 this year at about 1.25 am, the victim, a taxi driver, was stopped by a group of five men near the junction of Lorong 11 Geylang.
The taxi driver told the group that he was unable to ferry all five of them as this exceeds the number of passengers allowed.
He was assaulted by one of the men, who also snatched his mobile phone when he tried to call the Police.
All five men subsequently fled after throwing the victim's mobile phone back to him.
Police said they managed to establish the identities of the suspects through leads from CCTV footage.
One of the suspects was arrested on the same day.
Another was arrested on March 22 while the remaining suspects were arrested at their residences a day later.
