对此，台湾陆委会既不愿证实，也没有否认。有消息称此事让蔡英文当局感觉颇为棘手。
报道称，这艘船在偷渡台湾途中因没油，漂流至东沙群岛，被台当局“海巡署”查获。据知情人士透露，5名偷渡乱港分子其后被送到高雄安置，目前已结束隔离。
这些人中，包括被控暴动、袭警等4项罪名的吴仲谦（24岁），以及去年7月1日闯入香港立法会的文家健（21岁）。今年6月香港法院审理文家健一案时，他因没有出庭被法院颁出拘捕令。
香港“修例风波”以来，台湾地区成为乱港分子逃避法律制裁的目的地之一。台当局今年6月推出所谓“香港人道援助关怀行动项目”，但强调援助的对象必须是“合法入境”。
《中国时报》援引消息称，这5人偷渡赴台，让蔡英文当局感觉颇为棘手，若收留就如同“政治庇护”，也可牵扯到香港国安法“勾结外国或境外势力危害国家罪”。但若被遣返回港，这些人预计会立刻被捕，违背台当局所谓的“承诺”，因此台当局对内下“封口令”，要求禁止消息外流。
就《中国时报》披露的消息，台湾陆委会不愿证实却也并未否认，陆委会发言人邱垂正27日仅称“没有这方面的信息可以提供”。
邱垂正又称，非法入境既违法也有风险，台当局“绝不鼓励”，但若因“政治因素”向台当局求助，后者会依现行法规以及所谓“人道原则”来处理相关个案。他呼吁相关人士遵守法律，切勿触法。
对于台当局及立法机构介入香港事务，甚至欲给乱港分子提供“救援”，国台办发言人马晓光曾指出，这是对违法暴恐势力的公然庇护，其图谋不会得逞，插手干预香港事务，必将自食恶果。
