Three Injured After 5.0 Quake in Central Aceh
At least three people were wounded and dozens of houses were badly damaged after a 5.0 earthquake hit Central Aceh and Bener Meriah districts in Aceh province late on Thursday, local government officials said.
The quake struck at 11.12 p.m. with an epicenter 23 km northwest of Takengon, the capital of Central Aceh district, and a depth of 10 km deep. “The tremors lasted for less than a minute,” said Eridawati from Banda Aceh's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
Residents ran out of their houses when they felt the shaking.
Central Aceh government spokesman Windi Darsa said that three people were injured after their house collapsed in Ketol regency, some 25 km northwest of Takengon. Two of the victims required surgery for broken bones.
