Today 18 Nov 2024 is the 48th Anniversary of the forced mass suicide of 909 followers of cult pastor Jim Jones of the Peoples Temple that established a haven in Guyana. The charismatic preacher demeanor changed after he lured his followers to a purchased plot of land in Guyana and forced them to become his slave. Eventually only a handful managed to escape while majority were forced to drink cyanide-laced drink at gun point when Jim Jones realised the authorities were after him. It is really a tragic that would certainly repeat itself even here where even educated people can fall for charismatic leaders using ambience sound and music to soothe their troubled minds in a stressful world.
