45 arrested for involvement in unlicensed moneylending activities

Officers from Tanglin Police Division arrested 34 men and 11 women aged between 18 and 74 on Thursday for suspected involvement in unlicensed moneylending activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects facilitated unlicensed moneylending activities by allowing their bank accounts to be used by loanshark syndicates to facilitate their business.
Investigations against those arrested are still ongoing.
Under the Moneylenders' Act (Revised Edition 2010), when a bank account or ATM card of any person is used to facilitate unlicensed moneylending, that person is presumed to have assisted the business of unlicensed moneylending.
