SINGAPORE — There were 43 new cases of Covid-19 infection as of noon on Friday (April 2), all of which were imported, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
This is the highest daily number of new cases in two months, since 58 new cases were recorded on Jan 30.
In its update on the coronavirus situation here, MOH said the 43 imported cases included two short-term visit pass holders who had come to Singapore from Papua New Guinea on a controlled itinerary for work.
CASES 61461 AND 61470
The pair had arrived from Papua New Guinea on March 27 for work projects here and both tested negative for Covid-19 upon arrival.
They remained isolated at a dedicated facility until they tested negative again on March 29.
Thereafter they were on a controlled itinerary, which was largely limited to their place of work and accommodation.
On March 30, they were placed on quarantine as they had been identified as close contacts of an earlier case, Case 61360, during their flight to Singapore.
One of the two new cases, Case 61461, developed a cough on the night of March 30, while the other, Case 61470, is asymptomatic.
They were tested for Covid-19 on March 31 and conveyed to separate hospitals when their results came back positive the next day.
Their serology test results are pending. Given their recent travel history and exposure to a Covid-19 case during their flight, MOH has classified these cases as imported.
CASE 61480
Another new case, a 46 year-old female Singapore PR, tested negative for Covid-19 on her arrival in Singapore from India on March 17. She served SHN at a dedicated facility.
On March 20, she was placed on quarantine as she had been identified as a close contact of an earlier case, Case 61047, during their flight to Singapore.
Her tests done during quarantine on March 21 and March 30 were negative for Covid-19. Her quarantine ended on March 31 and she went home, where she remained until she sought medical treatment for an unrelated condition on Thursday.
Although she was asymptomatic, she was tested again, and this time her result came back positive for Covid-19 infection and she was hospitalised.
Her serology test result is pending. Given her recent travel history and exposure to a Covid-19 case during her flight, MOH has classified this as an imported case.
THE REMAINING CASES
One is a Singaporean and four are Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs) who returned from Germany, India and the United Kingdom
Three are student's pass holders who arrived from India and Myanmar
Three are work pass holders who arrived from India and the Philippines
25 are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of whom five are foreign domestic workers
Four are short-term visit pass holders. Three arrived from India and Indonesia for work projects, while another arrived from Indonesia to visit her family members who are Singapore PRs
UPDATE ON CONDITION OF CONFIRMED CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore is now 60,450.
Fifteen more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
In all, 60,176 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 40 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 204 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
So far, 30 have passed away from complications due to the coronavirus infection.
