PETALING JAYA - Four men, believed to be on the prowl for potential victims at the 1Utama shopping mall here in Bandar Utama, were nabbed by alert security guards on Wednesday night.

Several iron rods, two parang and screwdrivers were found inside the suspects' grey Proton Wira. The car was also reported stolen in Sungai Buloh earlier the same day.

Police believe that the suspects were lurking around the parking lot of the shopping mall looking for potential victims.

The drama unfolded about 10pm when security guards on patrol noticed the suspects driving around aimlessly. Suspicious, the guards approached the vehicle.

The suspects, however, sped off and drove onto the oncoming lane. The suspects crashed and damaged several vehicles and their car came to stop after it got stuck on the divider. With their vehicle immobilised, at least 12 security guards surrounded the vehicle and used their batons to break the windows. The suspects were apprehended and handed over to the police.

Mohd Haikal Abdul Rashid, 27, said his car was about 15m away from the suspects' car and the cars in front of him had all stopped when they heard the commotion.

"I heard the sound of glass breaking and saw smoke coming from the car tyres. I also saw the four men being taken into custody by the security guards," he added.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed said the four suspects had been remanded.

On May 27, Internet marketeer Chin Xin-Ci was attacked by two men at the Curve shopping mall car park in Mutiara Damansara. However, she put up a fight with the two suspects before escaping.

A day later, two women who worked at a Japanese goods store at the Curve were robbed of RM80,000 by two men who threw curry powder in their faces before escaping with the cash.

On June 4, a salesgirl was abducted at a public outdoor parking lot near the 1Utama shopping mall. The victim was confronted by a man wearing a motorcycle crash helmet and armed with a parang.

He pushed her into her car and forced her to drive off.

The victim was taken to an automated teller machine where she was forced to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money. She was later taken back to 1Utama and dumped.
