Have to admit, this is humorous. On one hand, we are saying that Singapore universities are one of the best in the world, but yet we still have to rely on white men to run the universities. After many years in existence, you thought they would be able to groom more Singaporean successors but I guess whenever a white man talks cock, people here take it as the gospel.
Most Singaporeans don't feel that way, especially some of the Chinese here. They are more than happy to think that all Westerners are gold while their kind is trash. There are capable Westerners, but there are also capable Singaporeans. I have seen how some capable Singaporeans get a position below the Westerners in companies just because the HR thinks that what Westerners said are 'words of wisdom'. End up, most of the westerners just laze around with the subordinates busily working in the background.gospel to me also like cock ...

Singapore isn't more advanced than the Western world when it come to innovation, invention and creativity.
List down the major scientific, medical, technological, creative achievements since 1959 (The year Sinkieland gained independence) and you'll find that 99% originate from the West.
It's for this reason that West is still viewed as superior to Asia. China, Singapore and many other rapidly developing cities of Asia may look very modern but under the hood lies Western technology.
In fact, all the technology we use to populate this forum with "wisdom" came from the white man.
Singapore has contributed absolutely NOTHING of significance to the betterment of mankind. It earned it's place as a "developed" nation by setting itself up as a tax haven for foreign multinationals. In recent years, it has turned to prostituting itself to foreigners in order to keep going.

Not quite. Japan is responsible for making substantial advances too. Think about cell phones: NTT started its 1G network in 1979 before the Europeans and Americans. The first genuine high speed rail was the Shinkansen and it's Shinkansen's success that prompted Europeans to follow suit. Even today, Japanese technology is ahead of the West in areas like robotics and hybrid automotive. Here's yet another example:

There's a distinct difference between inventing something and mass producing/popularising the technology. The cell phone was invented by Dr Martin Cooper. The high speed train first made an appearance in Italy in 1938.

Institutes of higher learning have to be the breeding grounds for fundamental research. Once something new has been invented, there will be companies out there who will turn the discovery into commercial reality. At the moment, it is the West that takes out the patents. Countries such as China and Singapore don't even figure in the equation.

NTU president to step down
Dr Su leaves important legacy after 8 years at the helm; he will stay on as professor

NANYANG Technological University (NTU) president Su Guaning, 60, will step down in June next year, after being at the helm for eight years.
He will be succeeded by the university's provost, Professor Bertil Andersson, 61. The new provost will be Professor Freddy Boey, 54, who currently heads the school of materials science and engineering.
Dr Su, who is credited with overseeing NTU's smooth transition to an autonomous university, had previously indicated his intention to step down after his term ends on June 30. Formally announcing his decision yesterday, the respected scholar said it was time to pass on the baton in the 'marathon relay' of building a world-class university.
'It will be difficult for me to put down a burden that has also been a joy and a source of energy over the last eight years. But renewal is a crucial stage in the life cycle of universities,' he said in a statement.
Dr Su, a President's Scholar and former chief of the Defence Science and Technology Agency, will stay on as a professor in the school of electrical and electronic engineering. He is leaving behind an important legacy, which included expanding the university's curriculum beyond engineering and science, and strengthening its ties with China.
Under his charge, NTU set up the school of humanities and social sciences, the school of physical and mathematical sciences, and the school of art, design and media. A fourth new school was later set up - the school of chemical and biomedical engineering - expanding NTU's engineering offerings before the establishment of a new medical school.
