Posted: 09 June 2012 1028 hrs
SINGAPORE: Four suspects were arrested for drink-driving during an island-wide police operation between 12.01am and 1.30am on Saturday.
Police set up road blocks along North Buona Vista Road, Dairy Farm Road, Fort Road, Buangkok East Drive, Tampines Avenue 10 and Thomson Road to net drink drivers.
Twenty-one motorists were asked to take the breathalyser test.
Two men and two women, aged between 29 and 43, failed the test and were arrested for drink-driving.
Police said the highest result clocked was 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, above the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
If convicted for drink-driving, the four arrested can be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months.
They may lose their driving licences and have to take theory and practical driving tests again to re-obtain their driving licences.
First-time offenders can be fined between S$1,000 and S$5,000 or jailed up to 6 months.
Repeat offenders can be fined up to S$30,000 and get a mandatory jail term of up to three years.
They may also get up to six strokes of the cane if they cause death or serious injury.
