Four soldiers were killed and two injured when heavily-armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday, officials told news agency PTI. The attack took place at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz around 3:45 pm, officials said.
Sources told India Today TV that the Dhatyar Morh location in Poonch district was chosen by terrorists to attack as the Army vehicles slowed down at this point due to a blind curve and bumpy road. The terrorists positioned themselves atop a hill at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, from where they fired bullets at the two Army vehicles, sources said.

Terrorists may have done a recee at the attack site where the two Army vehicles -- a truck and a Maruti Gypsy -- were ambushed, sources said, adding that three or four of them were believed to be involved in the attack.
The Army vehicles were ambushed by the terrorists at Dhatyar Morh when they slowed down at the blind curve. Security forces had retaliated, but terrorists managed to flee from that location, sources further said.

According to sources, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team will investigate the spot where the attack took place in Poonch district.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector-General (IG) Ashok Yadav said soldiers were alert and cautious in the border area to eliminate any attempts of infiltration by terrorists.

He said 250 to 300 terrorists were waiting to infiltrate India according to intelligence inputs, adding that security forces were ready to prepare for any eventuality.

Security forces on Friday launched a massive cordon and search operation in the forest area of Poonch district, a day after the attack.
An official said aerial monitoring is also being conducted and sniffer dogs have been pressed into service to track down the terrorists who ambushed two Army vehicles in the area on Thursday afternoon.
"A massive cordon and search operation has begun this morning after a night cordon in area," an officer told news agency PTI.
He said that additional troops have been inducted into the area to track down the terrorists involved in the firing.
The officer quoted above said the Dhera Ki Gali (DKG) Road has been closed for traffic. Top officials of the Army, including White Knight Corps Commander Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, and the police were monitoring the situation on the ground.
Security officials say that the investigation of the site was being carried out to find out the pattern and use of weapons, including steel core bullets in the ambush.
The People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the ambush.
