4.9kg of heroin worth S$740,000 seized

SINGAPORE: Narcotics officers have seized 4.9 kilogrammes of heroin worth about S$740,000 in the first large drug seizure this year.

This came about when officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority found ten black bundles of heroin hidden under the seats of a Malaysian-registered bus.

The bus had arrived at the Woodlands checkpoint at about 10pm Thursday.

Passengers had earlier spotted a fellow male passenger behaving suspiciously, pressing on the bus seats.

The suspect, a 34-year-old Malaysian, was later arrested.

Anyone found guilty of importing more than 15 grammes of heroin faces the death penalty.
