39-year-old man arrested after selling fake mobile phones

SINGAPORE - A 39-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in selling fake mobile phones to members of public.

The man would approach unsuspecting victims and offer to sell them brand new mobile phones of the latest models, passing them off as genuine, at prices below the market rate, the police said in a statement.

Victims would only realise that the mobile phone was an imitation after the purchase.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio police division later arrested the suspect in the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 5 on June 10 at about 10pm.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

Any person involved in the sales of any goods where a registered trade mark is falsely applied shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 for each item (but not exceeding $100,000), or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or to both.
