3 years jail for slicing cousin's fingers

A 22-year old man from was sentenced to three years’ jail by the the Sibu Sessions Court in Sarawak for slicing off his cousin’s fingers. Konek @ Hendson Uka, was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon. The court was told that Konek was drinking with others at the verandah of Rumah Lapok longhouse in Ulu Menyan at about 1.30am on Oct 31.
He soon became drunk and started quarrelling with other longhouse residents. One of his cousins, Lari Lapok, told him to calm down but Konek attacked him instead by pulling his shirt and punching him several times. After being advised by elders, Lari quickly fled the scene. But Konek ran after him with a machete and tried to smash the windscreen of Lari’s car. When Lari tried to stop him, Konek, slashed him. Lari lost his small finger and his ring finger in the attack.
