KOTA TINGGI - Three foreigners were killed after they were struck by a boat propeller while trying to evade arrest by the marine police here.

The three, two men and a woman, were among a group of foreigners who were trying to slip out of the country through Ladang Rusa beach in Sungai Rengit here early yesterday morning.

Their bodies were found in a boat that was abandoned by the group after they were ambushed by the marine police.

They were believed to have been killed by the propeller of the same boat while trying to evade arrest.

Police marine region 2 operations and intelligence chief ASP Rohizan Mohamad Saaid said following a tip-off, the police spotted a group of immigrants trying to board the boat at around 12.30am.

"When we ambushed the group, some of them tried to escape towards the beach while others jumped into the boat which accelerated towards the sea. The skipper later jumped off the boat to escape," he said, adding that 45 illegal immigrants were arrested on the beach.

He said that the 45 illegals included 36 Indonesian men, eight Indonesian women and a Pakistani man, aged between 20 years and 45 years old. They were sent to the Kota Tinggi police headquarters for further investigation.

"We urge the public to inform us of any suspicious activities by contacting us at 07-2372222 or 07-2376122," he added.
