3 arrested for suspected involvement in loansharking activities

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested two women and a man, aged between 20 and 30, for suspected involvement in loansharking activities in two separate cases.
The two women were arrested in the vicinity of Bedok North St 1 after police found loanshark-related items in their possession.
Paint, markers, suspected debtors' records and a handphone containing photos of suspected loanshark harassment were found by police in the two women's possession.
The suspects are believed to be responsible for several cases of loanshark harassment island-wide involving the splashing of paint at debtors' units and writing loanshark-related graffiti on walls.
In a separate case, police officers arrested the male suspect in the vicinity of Sungei Gedong.

The man is also believed to be involved in a case of harassment by placing raw beef meat at a residence in the Pasir Ris area.
The suspects will be charged in court on Thursday and Friday.
First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment could be fined between S$5,000 and S$50,000, serve a mandatory jail term of up to 5 years and receive mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
