Canada's biggest telecom Rogers to lay off 900
OTTAWA - ONE of Canada's top cellphone and cable service providers Rogers Communications announced on Thursday it would lay off 900 staff nationwide.
Spokesman Terrie Tweddle told public broadcaster CBC the cuts 'represent a very small percentage of our workforce' and 'the primary focus of the job losses are actually at the executive and management levels.'
Rogers employs 30,000 people in Canada. The layoffs will affect about three per cent of its workforce, Mr Tweddle said.
The company last month said it would seek to streamline its operations to better compete. Analysts predict its major competitors Bell and Telus will announce similar staff reductions soon. -- AFP
