26 drug syndicates busted on average every year

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CND) had seized an assortment of drugs, including 6.800 Erimin-5 tablets, 420 Ecstasy tablets, 360g of Ketamine and 140g of ice from a drug syndicate during a raid at a Farrer Park apartment on March 8. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has, on average, busted 26 drug trafficking syndicates every year between 2000 and last year.
And it will continue to employ not only 'tough and vigorous' measures, but also 'upstream intervention initiatives', as part of its efforts to fight drug-related crimes.
These remarks were made by the bureau's director Ng Ser Song on Tuesday in his first agency Workplan Seminar speech since taking over from former CNB chief Ng Boon Gay in February.
To illustrate the bureau's attempts to tackle the problem upstream, Mr Ng said CNB has conducted 53 joint operations with Malaysia's Narcotics Crime Investigation Department since 2000.
