SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 24-year old man for allegedly stealing $18,450 worth of battery packs from telecommunications mobile base stations island-wide.

Between May to June this year, the police received about 15 reports of battery packs being stolen from mobile base stations at Sentosa, Marina Square, Orchard Road, Tanjong Pagar and Mandai.

An ambush was conducted at Bedok North on Monday, and he was arrested.

He will be charged on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces up to three years in jail and could be fined for each charge.
