20-year-old arrested for housebreaking in Choa Chu Kang

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 20-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of housebreaking and theft reported at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.
On 7 July 2015 at about 9am, a woman woke up to find her house had been broken into. She discovered that a wallet containing cash and personal documents had been stolen.
Upon receiving the report, police officers conducted ground enquiries; and with the aid of the Police Camera (PolCam), the officers managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him the same day at about 1.30pm along Bukit Batok Road.
The stolen items were also recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be also involved for several other break-ins in the neighbourhood.
The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday. If convicted, he could be jailed for a term of up to 10 years and be fined.
The police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks.
- Secure all doors and window grills before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even if it is for a short while.
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
- Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
