2 youths arrested for stealing a motorcycle part

SINGAPORE - Two youths aged 14 and 16 years old who are believed to have stolen a motorcycle part were arrested by the police today.
A 47-year-old man reported to the police yesterday that the carburettor of his motorcycle was stolen in the vicinity of Bukit Merah Lane more than one month ago.
After reviewing CCTV footage and conducting ground inquiries, officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the first suspect, aged 16, who was arrested in the vicinity of Clementi Avenue 5 at about 1.10 pm today. Through follow up investigations, the other 14-year-old suspect was arrested at his residence at Lengkok Bahru on the same day at about 4.15 pm.
Both suspects will be charged in Court on Monday for the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts under Section 379A of the Penal Code Chapter 224, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
Commander of Clementi Police Division (Covering), Superintendent of Police Gwee Aik Chiong advised motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
a. Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;
b. Install an anti-theft alarm for your vehicle;
c. Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; &
d. Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install suspension guard.
