Police have arrested two men, aged 33 and 40 years old, for robbing a woman at the void deck of a block at Jurong East Street 21.

The incident occurred on Sep 3, 2013, at about 4.20pm.

The men approached the 19-year-old victim from behind and assaulted her, before fleeing with her mobile phone valued at about $700.

Officers from Clementi Police Division arrested the 33-year-old suspect in the vicinity of Jurong West Street 41 on Sep 10 at 5.15pm. Through follow-up investigations, the 40-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested in the vicinity of Jurong Gateway Road at about 6.45 pm the same day.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 40-year-old suspect is also believed to be involved in other theft cases.

The suspects will be charged in court on Sep 12 for the offence of Robbery With Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

If convicted, the suspects face a jail term of between 5 and 20 years and caning of up to 12 strokes.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong, advised members of the public to adopt the following measures if confronted:

• Remain calm and take note of the description of the perpetrator, e.g. his appearance, clothing, height and other physical details;
• Note the direction and the perpetrator’s mode of escape; and
• Call the police as soon as it is safe to do so
