KUCHING - A 29-year-old snatch theft suspect is in coma after allegedly suffering blows to his head while in police custody.
On Monday, his 54-year-old uncle lodged a police report alleging his nephew had been assaulted and suffered internal bleeding in the brain.
Upon investigation, two inspectors, aged 32 and 30, were picked up following the incident.
State Police Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the two were remanded and the case was classified as causing grievous hurt.
Initial investigations showed the inspectors were involved in a scuffle with a group of men last Thursday at 2.30am in Travillion.
It is believed the two men were at the scene to disperse the group, but were assaulted instead.
One officer who lost his wallet in the incident, subsequently had RM6,000 stolen from his bank account after it was withdrawn by one of suspects.
"No one is above the law. Even policemen are subject to the laws of the country. We have done our investigation and now leave it to the judicial process," said Acryl.
