Two debtors, a man and woman aged 51 and 63, were arrested on Friday for using their old residential address to borrow money from loansharks.
Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division arrested the couple at Yishun Street 81. The two suspects had provided false contact information when obtaining illegal loans, which resulted in loansharks harassing the current owners of the house.
Additionally, they are also being investigated for failing to report the change of their residential address, a must under the National Registration Act. Investigations against the two suspects are ongoing.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San warned that the police take a serious view of individuals who seek loans from illegal moneylenders using their old addresses and cause inconvenience and misery to the innocent parties.
