<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THE body of a 35-year-old Singaporean man was found yesterday, after he fell into the Singapore River following a quarrel with his girlfriend in the early hours of last Saturday.
The body of Mr Bharat Singh was seen floating near the river bank opposite The Riverwalk complex at 9.30am.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was called in to retrieve the man's body and he was confirmed dead by paramedics at 10.25am.
Evening daily Lianhe Wanbao had reported that Mr Singh and his girlfriend, both divorcees, were having drinks at a bar at Clarke Quay when they had an argument.
They left without paying, the bar owner said.
A member of the public later called the police at 5.40am on Saturday after they had seen a man fall into the river.
The authorities launched a search of the river until just after noon that day.
But searchers found only a pair of men's shoes at Coleman Bridge, the spot where Mr Singh supposedly fell into the river.
In a separate incident, a highly decomposed body was found in a forested area off Sembawang Road on Friday.
It is understood that the Special Operations Command and the Police Dog Unit combed the area for clues for almost 15 hours after the grisly find.
Police investigations are ongoing.
