Police arrested a 31-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman for two separate cases of suspected involvement in loanshark harassment.

In the first case, police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment committed by a woman in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 on Thursday.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division promptly responded and spotted a woman fitting the description given.

Loanshark-related paraphernalia that included a mobile phone and a notebook believed to contain debtors' records were found in her possession and seized as case exhibits. After a brief interview, she was placed under arrest.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect assisted loansharks to commit harassment by delivering debtors' notes and demanding repayments.

A middle age auntie sparked off a dramatic car chase with police in Ang Mo Kio yesterday.

The incident happened yesterday evening around 6pm at Blk 412, Ang Mo Kio Ave 10.

The woman had been caught red-handed acting as a loanshark runner and vandalising a wall.

The debtor had apparently seen her and called the police immediately.

In response, the woman was said to have thrown down the marker in her hand and fled.

Just as she was trying to make her escape in a small van, the police arrived at the same time and started to chase the woman.

The woman, in a bid to escape, led several police cars on a chase in the neighbourhood for nearly 1km before she was nabbed.

According to eyewitnesses, the capture was dramatic as police cars finally managed to intercept her van near Blk 448.

Nine policemen and four police cars surrounded the woman and ordered her to come out from her vehicle.

Officers then donned gloves to search her handbag and wallet.

The woman, described as looking softspoken with dyed brown hair, was handcuffed and brought back to the police station about an hour later.

A police spokesperson told reporters that a Chinese woman in her 50s was arrested for illegal money lending activities. The police are investigating the case.
