A SINGAPOREAN man who offered a $10,000 bribe to a police officer found out the hard way that police integrity could not be bought.
Four cops from Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police - Lee Guang Hao, Khairul Izhan, Juraimi Bin Mohamed Amin, Chan Cheong Tak - were performing a roadblock at Kg Bahru Rd when they spotted a car stopping a few metres away from the roadblock point on Monday at about 3am.
The 53-year-old man was then seen leaving the car. Sensing that something was amiss, the officers decided to check on him.
As the suspect was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, he was asked to provide his breath sample.
Despite several warnings, the suspect was not able to provide a proper breath sample and a valid driving license.
When the suspect realised that he was going to be arrested, he offered to give one of the policemen $10,000 in return for letting him go. However, the officer did not succumb to temptation and rejected the offer without hesitation. The suspect was then arrested and referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau (CPIB).
DAC Tan Hung Hooi, Commander of Central Police Division, commending his officers for displaying a high level of integrity, said: 'I'm proud that my officers held true to the core values of the Force. Their actions bear testament that integrity is an integral part of the Singapore Police Force.'
